چکیده
This document presents an extract of an upcoming book written by Nicolas Remy, Alexandre Boucher and Jianbing Wu. The book has 10 chapters detailing how to use the SGeMS software. SGeMS is a software for 3D geostatistical modeling. It implements many of the classical geostatistics algorithms, as well as new developments related to multiple-point geostatistics. The software is open source and free of charge, it can be downloaded at http://sgems.sourceforge.net/. Included is the book table of content and the more theoretical Chapter 3 Geostatistics: A recall of concept

Tetris: a training image generator for SGeMS
The recent developments of training image-based geostatistics have allowed the creation of stochastic models with greater realism than before. These algorithms aim at reproducing spatial patterns, such as connectivity, that are depicted in a training image. A training image contains the possible spatial configurations for any given geological object and relationships between objects. However, a...
متن کاملSGEMS-UQ: An uncertainty quantification toolkit for SGEMS
While algorithms and methodologies to study uncertainty in the Earth Sciences are constantly evolving, there are currently few open-source integrated softwares that allows the general practitioners access to these developments. This paper presents SGEMS-UQ, a plugin for the SGEMS platform, that is used to perform distance-based uncertainty analysis on geostatistical simulations, and the resulti...
متن کاملGroundwater Level Mapping Using Multiple-Point Geostatistics
Methods based on two-point geostatistics have been routinely used to interpolate random variables such as groundwater level and concentration and to estimate their values at un-sampled locations. These methods use the observed data to analyze spatial two-point correlations and ignore the higher order moments that may play a key role in the characterization of complex patterns. In this work, a m...
متن کاملFacies Modeling of Heterogeneous Carbonates Reservoirs by Multiple Point Geostatistics
Facies modeling is an essential part of reservoir characterization. The connectivity of facies model is very critical for the dynamic modeling of reservoirs. Carbonate reservoirs are so heterogeneous that variogram-based methods like sequential indicator simulation are not very useful for facies modeling. In this paper, multiple point geostatistics (MPS) is used for facies modeling in one of th...
متن کاملGeostatistics in soil science: state-of-the-art and perspectives
This paper presents an overview of the most recent developments in the field of geostatistics and describes their application to soil science. Geostatistics provides descriptive tools such as semivariograms to characterize the spatial pattern of continuous and categorical soil attributes. Ž . Various interpolation kriging techniques capitalize on the spatial correlation between observations to ...
